Like many sewists (aka sewers, dressmakers or fabric creationist!) I remember being shown how to use a sewing maching by my mother, at a very young age. I had pestered her for, what seemed like, forever to buy me the (then) top of the range Brother Opal Plus sewing machine for Christmas 1985. She thought she was being funny when I received a box containing a Fisher Price plastic sewing machine, but I was heart broken. It wasn’t until two weeks later that she suddenley remembered that there was another box hidden away for me… containing the sewing machine that would set me off on my bumpy journey of sewing.

I still have that excellent machine squirrelled away. For a long time it was my only one. Since those early days I have forgotten most of what my mother taught me. However, two years ago, once again, I pestered someone (this time my husband) for a more heavy duty sewing machine so that I could start making my own bags and a Pfaff Select 150 came into my life. Now I have added a Bernina 1350MDA overlocker and a Pfaff Coverlock 4.0 to my studio and a happy little family to my home.
